COUNSELLING
Counselling for the harder side of becoming a parent.
Specialist therapy for pregnancy loss, infertility, birth trauma, termination for medical reasons, and the wider perinatal journey. Online across the UK or in person in Norwich.
If you're here, you may be carrying something that feels too heavy or too complicated to share with the people around you.
Maybe you've experienced a loss that those around you don't fully understand. Maybe a birth went very differently to how you'd been told it would. Maybe you're months or years into trying for a baby and the world keeps moving on around you. Maybe you've reached a decision that nobody told you might be ahead, like a termination for medical reasons.
My counselling practice is built specifically for these experiences. I have the clinical training to hold them and the personal experience to recognise them. I work with people across the UK online, and with a small number of clients in person in Norwich.
WHO I WORK WITH
My areas of clinical specialism.
I welcome anyone affected by these experiences, including individuals, couples, women, men, non-binary people and partners. My specific areas of clinical specialism are:
-
01
Pregnancy loss, miscarriage and stillbirth
Pregnancy loss is far more common than most people realise, and yet most people who experience it report feeling profoundly alone in it. I work with clients in the immediate aftermath of a loss, and with clients carrying losses from years or decades ago that have never had space to be properly processed.
-
02
Termination for medical reasons
TFMR is one of the most difficult decisions any parent can be asked to make, and one of the least talked about. I provide a space where you don't have to justify, explain or soften your experience. Whether your decision was recent or many years ago, this work is welcome here.
-
03
Infertility and fertility counselling
The cumulative weight of trying to conceive, fertility investigations and treatment cycles affects every part of life. I work with clients through every stage of the fertility journey, including IVF, ICSI, donor conception, surrogacy considerations, and the decision about when or whether to stop.
-
04
Birth trauma
A traumatic birth can leave you with symptoms that don't go away on their own, including intrusive memories, hypervigilance, difficulty bonding, and a sense that something is fundamentally wrong. I work with parents in the months and years following a traumatic birth, using trauma-informed approaches that go beyond talking about what happened.
-
05
Perinatal anxiety and depression
The mental health changes of pregnancy and early parenthood are not always picked up by routine appointments. I work with clients experiencing perinatal anxiety, perinatal depression, intrusive thoughts and OCD-type symptoms during pregnancy and the postnatal period.
-
06
The transition into parenthood
Even without loss or trauma, becoming a parent reshapes a person in ways that can be hard to articulate. I work with clients who are struggling with identity, relationships, family of origin issues, or the gap between the parent they imagined being and the parent they actually feel like.
HOW COUNSELLING WORKS
What counselling with me looks like.
I welcome anyone affected by these experiences, including individuals, couples, women, men, non-binary people and partners. My specific areas of clinical specialism are:
-
01
A 20-minute introductory call
We start with a free 20-minute call, by phone or video. There's no expectation that you'll book counselling after this. Many people use it to ask questions, hear how I work, or just feel out whether I'm the right counsellor for them.
-
02
Weekly 50-minute sessions
Most clients have weekly 50-minute sessions, online via secure video or in person in Norwich. Some clients work fortnightly, or move to fortnightly after an initial period of weekly work.
-
03
Short-term or
open-endedSome people come for a defined piece of work around a specific event and finish in eight to twelve sessions. Others stay longer. I'm open with you about what I think is useful as we go.
FEES
Simple, transparent fees.
£70 per 50-minute session
I hold a small number of reduced-fee places for clients for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier. Please ask if this applies to you. I would much rather have an honest conversation about money than for finances to stop you reaching out.
Payment is by bank transfer, due 24 hours before the session.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions.
A few of the things people most often ask about counselling. Can't see your question? A free 20-minute call is the best way to find out if we're a good fit.
-
Yes. The majority of my counselling practice is online with clients across the UK. I use a secure video platform and have been working online since [year]. Many clients prefer online sessions because of the flexibility, privacy and reduced travel.
-
I work with a small number of UK clients living abroad. For clients based outside the UK, please get in touch and I'll let you know whether I can work with you. There are some jurisdictions where I'm not able to offer counselling for regulatory reasons.
-
There's no fixed timeline. Some clients find an eight to twelve session piece of work allows them to process and integrate a specific loss. Others need longer, particularly where there are multiple losses, secondary infertility, or earlier trauma being touched by the recent loss. We talk openly about length as we go.
-
Yes. The content of our sessions is confidential. As is standard for BACP-registered counsellors, I have a few specific legal and ethical limits to confidentiality (for example, if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else), which I explain in full at the start of our work together. I also discuss my client work in clinical supervision, which is anonymised and is itself confidential. -
No. Trauma-informed counselling does not require you to recount traumatic events in detail. We work at your pace, with your consent, and there are many ways to process trauma that do not involve detailed retelling. I'll explain how I work in our first session.
-
I work primarily with individuals. For couples specifically affected by pregnancy loss, infertility or birth trauma, I can sometimes offer couples work or signpost to colleagues who specialise in couples therapy in this area.
-
Yes. I take self-referrals and referrals from GPs, midwifery teams, health visitors, and NHS perinatal mental health teams. I can also work with clients funded through some workplace EAP schemes. Please get in touch to discuss. -
Some health insurance policies cover counselling with BACP-registered practitioners. Please check with your insurer whether they cover my registration category. I can provide invoices for insurance claims.
